Herman Marable Jr.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Age: 42
Profession: District Court Judge
Hobbies: Karaoke, Whitewater Rafting, Model Railroading, Cross-country Skiing, Reward Collecting
When did you start singing?
I've been singing since 1998.
Who/what got you interested in karaoke/KWC event?
Karaoke is relaxing for me. I have used my winnings in karaoke contests to start a student of the month program in my hometown. To go to the KWC is the chance of a lifetime, ...doing something I love.
Your idol singer, performer etc. Why this person?
I enjoy a wide variety of performers. I like pop music from the 1960's, 1970's, and early 1980's.

Since being invited to represent America at KWC 2005 Herman has been interviewed on
the radio stations
WSMH FOX 66 News and
WHNN 96.1 in Saginaw
as well as on the television stations
WEYI-TV 25 (NBC) and
WJRT-TV 12 (ABC)
...and last I heard from him was a hand written letter he penned while on a layover in an airport in Detriot.
I first met Herman via telephone after he had placed first in the KWCUSA Region 7 Finals.
Herman came out to delight the crowd at KWCUSA Nationals and went on to compete in the
Karaoke World Championships as a member of the 2005 American team. I had the privelege of speaking with Herman more than once before he left for Finland and learned about his occupation, his singing, and his program for youth.
Herman, as you may have noted from the above data which he had submited to KWC, is Judge Herman Marable Jr., 68th District Court, Flint Michigan. He has instituted a program to encourage and help children by awarding a student of the month Certificate of Recoginition, trophy, a day visiting the courts as his guest, and a savings bond to tenth grade students.
Most interestingly, he finances this himself through karaoke contests and Herman's Citizen's Advisory Committee has been nominated for a Priority Children's Champion Award!
I perceived that he takes his profession extremely seriously by our conversations which often drifted to the topic of law. Herman sings karaoke just to unwind and have fun, (note the positive outlook here) hence he is able to relax on stage and appear at times in costume, performing a parody, or with a prop which adds
to the entertainment in a style all his own.
I have not yet heard from Herman since KWC, but think I may have spotted him in the photo below taken by Atte Hujanen in Finland at the KWC cocktail party.
